Assessment Team (A Team)

The A Team, was convened in Fall, 2011 with one member of each of the three organizational teams within Student Affairs plus the Coordinator of Assessment.

The team meets monthly to review the assessment plans and reports, providing feedback to the units. In reviewing the assessment documents, the A Team uses rubrics adopted from WASC and edited by an ad hoc group of Student Affairs staff and the Coordinator of Assessment for UC Merced, Laura Martin.

The team has also begun designing the divisional assessment agenda. Since 2006, the division has been developing a shared set of Student Learning Outcomes that are also aligned with the institution's Eight Guiding Principles for General Education. Teams of Student Affairs staff are working to further define the seven Student Learning Outcomes and the A Team will lead discussions about how to best assess this co-curricular learning across the campus.

Finally, the team is committed to capacity building, to improve the assessment skills of the entire division of student affairs. Plans are in the works for a summer weekly brown bag series to allow staff to learn more about assessment basics like writing outcomes, designing a survey and using rubrics.
