Celebrate the Legacy...
The annual Scholars Bridge Crossing has been a long-standing tradition since 2005, which commemorates the beginning of a student’s academic journey at UC Merced. Since the first class of Bobcats crossed Scholars Bridge, the symbolic walk has transformed into a campus celebration while staying true to its original spirit.
From a campus celebration to a student-led tradition by the Student Alumni Association, Scholars Bridge Crossing is now proudly organized by UC Merced’s Division of Student Affairs, with each chapter adding new meaning and energy to the special occasion.
The Fall 2025 event has been generously supported by Pearl Family Dentistry, with additional support from businesses whose contributions make the experience possible for every new Bobcat.
As a nod to the original white polos given in 2005, students continue to receive a commemorative Journey Shirt featuring business sponsors. These matching shirts build a sense of unity and Bobcat pride while proudly showcasing the Merced community’s investment in student success and their support for the university’s mission.
Students will gather near the Pavilion for a welcome from campus leadership before walking across Scholars Bridge and through the Beginnings Sculpture. As a homage to the student tradition, graduates in cap and gown are led through the Beginnings Sculpture in reverse before their commencement ceremony to mark their transition from student to alum.
Now in its 20th academic year, Scholars Bridge Crossing is a reflection of UC Merced’s growth and the strong ties between students, alumni, and the community. As the UC Merced Alumni Association reminds us, every Bobcat is a proud alum from day one.
