Commencement Student Speaker Application

List the name and contact information of a UC Merced faculty member who can speak to the applicant’s academic ability, including engagement with curricular and co-curricular opportunities that are hallmarks of the undergraduate experience.

By checking the box below and submitting this supplemental application, you are authorizing the Office of Student Conduct at the University of California, Merced to discuss information contained in any student conduct records that may exist with the Commencement Student Speaker selection committee. This consent applies to educational records that may otherwise be protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended, 20 U.S.C. 123g. By checking the box below you acknowledge and understand that both your university student conduct and academic records will be reviewed to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements for the position of Commencement Student Speaker.

 

By submitting this application, I understand that if selected for Commencement Student Speaker, I will be held to the following requirements:

  • Participate in preparation sessions with UC Merced Public Relations staff, in which public speaking coaching and minor speech edits may be provided
  • Sign a formal agreement, confirming your commitment to deliver the speech submitted during the application process (with the exception of minor edits identified in preparation sessions)
  • Attend Commencement ceremony practice sessions
