Bobcat Pawrade- UPDATED!

The Bobcat Pawrade of decorated golf carts will lead the Scholars Bridge Crossing procession of incoming students as they march up Scholars Lane and continue through the iconic Beginnings Sculpture as part of a campus tradition. The parade is open to UC Merced staff and participants should focus on decorating their golf carts to show school spirit or highlight their department as part of Blue and Gold Day. Community members (students, staff, faculty, and guests) will vote on their favorite golf cart. Golfcarts will be parked in a designated and visible space on campus between 10am and 11am. Votes will be collected between 9am and 12pm on Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Votes will be tallied electronically and results will be announced by Wednesday, August 28, 2024. Pawrade Voting Criteria/Considerations:
1. School Spirit
Voters will look for creativity and enthusiasm in showcasing UC Merced Bobcat pride and assess the originality of decorations. Considerations: the use of school colors, mascots, slogans, and university-themed items.
2. Creativity and Originality
Voters will look for the uniqueness and inventiveness of the golf cart design and the use of various materials, complexity of the design and overall aesthetic appeal. Considerations: innovative ideas, artistic elements, and clever themes.
3. Overall Presentation and Execution
Voters will assess the overall impression of the golf cart, including neatness and attention to detail. Considerations: theme execution, coordination of any moving parts/lights, visual impact, cohesive and polished presentation.
Voting/Prize
- Voters will be asked to identify their top three carts.
- The department's golf cart that receives the most votes will earn Special Recognition and Ultimate Bragging Rights!
Decorations Guide
1. Cart decorations should focus on spreading UC Merced school spirit, welcoming our newest bobcats to campus or highlighting your department.
2. Sustainable and economically friendly decorations are highly encouraged.
3. Although the carts will be driving at a slow speed, decorations must be able to stay attached to the cart while in motion.
4. Rented Carts - If you are using one of our rented carts, please read the following:
- Decorations must be temporarily attached (painters’ tape, zip ties, string, etc.).
- All decorations must be taken off the carts and disposed of properly by 1:00 pm. Trash cans will be available in the cart parking area
- Due to limited space, departments must leave the carts in the designated order, they cannot be moved from the Conference Center. Golf cart decorating will need to take place where your cart is parked.-Decorations must be temporarily attached (painters’ tape, zip ties, string, etc.)
