Vernette Doty serves as the Director of the Community Engagement Center, the Margo F. Souza Student Leadership Center and the CollegeCorps program, and currently as the Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Engagement at the University of California, Merced. She received her M.Ed. with emphasis in student development at Washington State University where her focus was academic community based learning for disciplines campus-wide. At UC Merced, Vernette focuses on developing and enriching students’ leadership journeys alongside supporting students, faculty and staff through academic and co-curricular community engagement, and academic community based learning partnerships to connect campus and community. Her goal is to foster strong, reciprocal partnerships that develop student civic leaders and contribute to positive social change. She has co-authored multiple journal articles and two book chapters highlighting campus community partnerships.
